Wind velocity on Saturday was more than that predicted by the early morning forecast obtained by the Race Committee. Instead of lighter winds, velocity readings for the day were between 7 and 16 mph, mainly from the SW. Due to the more southerly wind direction early in the day, a downwind start was posted for Race #1 in order to position the boats for good windward/leeward work on the longer legs 3 and 4. Skippers adjusted well to this unusual start situation. The remainder of the racing was more traditional as the wind shifted more toward the West. When the wind allowed, the faster multihull boats were given a longer course that included the more distant mark #1 and #5 while the monohulls were kept between the closer mark #2 and #4. Wind shifts at the windward turning marks and a slight current on the Snake River did not prove to be a problem for racers. Winds pressure was continuous throughout the day allowing the RC to complete 4 races for the competing centerboard, keelboat, and multihull fleets before retiring for the planned cookout. Sunday’s weather was sunny with lighter winds allowing for more comfortable sailing. As the day progressed, wind velocity diminished. Two races were completed for the day before the wind faded completely. Sunday racing was followed by boat retrieval, the Awards Ceremony, and the departing skippers and crews heading for home.
